5 Best Cloud Storage Services To Use in 2021

Jul 18, 2021

I’m going to show you 5 of the cloud storage services on the market so that you can easily and securely save your files on any device.

Before we begin, I’ll explain what all of these cloud storage services can do for you.

  • They allow you to store files and folders on their servers and you can easily access these files and folders from any of your devices.
  • You can share files and folders with anyone you want by providing URLs to those files and folders.

1. OneDrive

I currently use this cloud storage since I use Microsoft 365 Personal and I get 1 TB of Onedrive storage with that plan.

Additionally, I’ve never had any major issues with it for the last few years I’ve been using it. It’s the fastest and most reliable cloud storage service I’ve ever used out of all the options I’ve tried.

Offers a personal vault functionality. Its Personal Vault is:

  • Secured by a Microsoft two-step verification
  • It automatically locks after 20 minutes of inactivity
  • It automatically turns off sharing to keep your files private

You need to download the Microsoft authenticator app on your smartphone to use the Personal Vault function.

2. Google Drive

Here are some features that differentiate it from other storage services:

  • It enables collaboration with a team by integrating seamlessly with Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides.
  • It has the best searching capabilities out of the three cloud services by far. If you use Google Drive to search for a phrase in a Microsoft Word document that is two folder levels down in a folder hierarchy, that document will immediately display in the search results.

Additionally, Google Drive definitely has the most unique-looking layout out of the storage services and it’s up to your personal preference whether you like the design choice.

3. iCloud

Here are some of its differentiating features:

  • If you own any Apple device, you already have iCloud included with that device and you already have 5GB of free iCloud storage.
  • It allows you to share entire albums of photos with anyone via text messages or emails.
  • It automatically backs up your Apple devices when they’re connected to a power source or Wi-Fi.
  • When you take photos with an Apple device, the original, full‑resolution photos you take can be automatically uploaded to iCloud. And you’ll still have a lightweight version of every photo on your device. You have the option of turning this particular functionality off if you prefer.

4. Dropbox

Here are some of its differentiating features:

  • If offers Dropbox Paper, which allows you to create documents you could use to co-edit and coordinate within a team
  • Slack and Zoom, work right from Dropbox. You can send a quick message or set up a virtual conference room with just a few clicks within Dropbox.

5. Box

Here are a couple of Box’s differentiating features that are geared toward corporate clients:

  • Its ability to set auto-expiration and password protection on shared links for particular files
  • If you work for a company that needs to satisfy international data residency requirements, you can choose the region where you store your files
